My Thoughts About Technology Tools For This Class

I think all the class tools for this module will come in handy at one point or another, my favourite tool so far being "Blogger". I like blogging because it gives me the chance to not only improve my writing skills but also chance to reflect back on what I have learned so far. Blogging allows me to see other peoples opinions about the module and what they find useful or not. Bookmarking pages has proved very useful to me, making it easier and faster to find my previous work. I have bookmarked pages in a browser folder but haven't used Pinterest yet as a bookmarking tool because I feel the folder on my browser does the job for now. I haven't used "Padlet" in any of my classes yet, but I have had a look on the website and it appears useful as you can group your ideas together in separate boards. It also looks like a tool you can get creative with because you can change backgrounds and colours to your own preference. The image editing and graphics creat

Time Management and Strategies

I noticed that in second year a lot more work is expected from us. I have to say that I'm a bit of a procrastinator, and this year I hope to improve my time management skills. What I find works with time management is goal setting, decision making, planning and most importantly focusing on the goal ahead of me. I will have to prioritise and see what is most important. By prioritizing, I plan to get the work that is due urgently done first, leaving the less urgent till later. Looking at my class timetable I can see that I am not in until 2 o'clock on some days which is a good and a bad thing. It gives me time in the morning to do some work but on the downside it also makes me want to stay in bed that little bit longer in the morning. Before I know it, it's 12 o'clock and I'm rushing out the door. So, how do I fix this problem? The answer is simple, focus on the bigger picture. Get up out of bed earlier, do a few hours of work before college starts. Come home take

My Thoughts About The Class Assignments

In today's blog, I want to discuss my thoughts about the assignments for the multimedia module I'm taking  this semester. The grading for this module is very different from anything I've seen before. The work for this module is all online and based off a points system. The module also has extra credit work which is separate from the core assignments.  The core assignments consist of readings, work in Unity3D, blog comments, projects, and project feedback. I like that the module has a broad range of different assignments because I think this will keep the module  interesting and engaging. The work in Unity looks really enjoyable  because I've always wanted to learn about making games. The concept of blogging is also new to me. Before I started this module I had never written a blog online. I'm still getting used to blogging but hope to improve as I write more. The extra credit work consists of "Tech tasks", "Wikipedia trails", "Growt

Growth Mindset

The topic of "growth mindset" is one I've never really pondered upon until I watched Carol Dweck's videos. I found the idea that people with a fixed mindset perform less in school, compared to a person with a growth mindset very interesting. Watching her videos really opened up my mind because I always thought some people were just born more intelligent than others. Everyone can develop their intelligence if they are dedicated, want to learn, and receive mentoring from others.  I learned that people who push out of their comfort zones to learn something new and difficult become more intelligent because the neurons in our brains form stronger connections.  I can see myself being somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. I should not be afraid to try things or push my self out of my comfort zone in the future. Although I will make mistakes along the way, I will get the opportunity to learn from these mistakes and improv

Introduction Into My (Awesome) Life

The names Conor, and in this blog I want to tell you a little about myself. I'm 20 years old and have lived in Dublin my entire life. I am currently a second-year student studying "Creative Digital Media" in Blanchardstown. I really enjoy my course and plan on getting a job in this industry when I get my degree. I'd describe myself as a determined and hardworking person who loves a good laugh. After working hard in year one it's safe to say I learned a lot. The best class I took last year was photography. I loved that this module required us to go outside to take photos because it offered a nice break from working inside all day. Although I liked most of my modules last year, I found modules that involved film or photography to be the most enjoyable. My goal for this year is to continue working hard and improve on my work. Speaking of working hard, we all need a break every now and again. Over the break, I took the opportunity to travel to several countries, i

Workshop 01

I found workshop 1 to be enjoyable because I was able to relate to the topic and reflect back on last year. We started with an exercise that helped us reflect on what went well for us last year, and what things we can improve on. After that, we moved onto an exercise called the "Traffic Lights Exercise". The objective of this assignment was to explain in plain English how traffic lights work. In year 1 I stayed on top of all the work, so I plan on doing the same this year. I think I can improve on the amount of time I spend doing extra study this year as well because it will help me to improve on my work across all modules. Although the "Traffic Lights Exercise" appeared to be simple, it was more difficult to explain when writing it down. I learned that somethings may appear simple to explain but more difficult when you have to write it on paper. I liked this exercise as it encouraged team building and helped me realize that just because you understand som

Favourite Games - Uncharted Video Game Series

My favourite game's of all time is the, "Uncharted" series. These games are third-person action adventure games, that have a great storyline which continues through all games. The games were developed by Naughty Dog Studios and published on the Sony PlayStation. The franchise has seen games releases on multiple different platforms including the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 4.     Although the first three games, "Drakes Fortune", "Among Thieves", and "Drakes Deception" was originally released on the PlayStation 3, Naughty Dog later released a remastered version of all three games on a single disk for the PlayStation 4 in 2015. These games all follow the same storyline but finally end with their 2016 release, "Uncharted: A Thief's End". The franchise has also seen other releases, such as, "Golden Abyss" and "The Lost Legacy". These games follow a separate storyline but are just as enjo
