Growth Mindset

The topic of "growth mindset" is one I've never really pondered upon until I watched Carol Dweck's videos.
I found the idea that people with a fixed mindset perform less in school, compared to a person with a growth mindset very interesting. Watching her videos really opened up my mind because I always thought some people were just born more intelligent than others.
Everyone can develop their intelligence if they are dedicated, want to learn, and receive mentoring from others.

I learned that people who push out of their comfort zones to learn something new and difficult become more intelligent because the neurons in our brains form stronger connections.

I can see myself being somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. I should not be afraid to try things or push my self out of my comfort zone in the future. Although I will make mistakes along the way, I will get the opportunity to learn from these mistakes and improve on my skills.

One of my biggest challenges is getting over the fear of looking dumb after making a mistake. If I overcome this problem I can set about learning new things. During this semester I would like to learn more about growth mindset because it will improve my attitude towards learning and help me grow as a person.

Some personal goals I have this semester are to balance out my workload properly and learn new skills that will benefit my work in college. I'm really excited to start the "Documentary Filmmaking" module this year.
The class I'm most worried about is "Web Design" because I find coding difficult. I hope to apply a growth mindset towards this module so I can improve my skill level at coding.

Growth mindset: YES, I CAN!)

Game Brainstorm

Game Brainstorm  I got my first game idea after looking at endless runner games such as "Temple Run", "Subway Surfers", "Sonic Dash" and "Super Mario Run". I noticed a lot of these games in this genre are on Android and iOS devices. This got me thinking about creating a similar game for PC. The first of these games to become popular was "Temple Run" back in 2011. This game made the genre popular on mobile devices which later inspired the other endless runner games I mentioned. Endless running games have very simple controls, such as jumping over and dodging oncoming obstacles. A player's score is generally determined by how far they travel without hitting any obstacles. The games have simplistic controls but are difficult because you cannot stop the forward momentum of your character. Although these games have different art styles the gameplay is the same.  I think this would be a good type of game to make because the gameplay ...

Unity Free Tutorials

This week I  followed two different tutorials on Youtube. I was working on these separately to my game. The first tutorial showed me how to make an in-game mini-map. The second tutorial I followed showed me how to add music and sound effects. It was a good idea trying out some new tutorials because I now feel inspired to use these in my own game. It was really easy to make a minimap. I had to make another camera and rotated it 90 degrees so it faced down on my game map. I then changed the perspective to orthographic. This gave the map a flat look. I then made a raw image using the UI tab, which made a rendered texture. I placed the rendered texture on the raw image. After that, I anchored the mini-map to the top right corner of the screen. The minimap I made using the tutorial by Brackeys The second tutorial was also very easy to follow, I didn't have any problems and was able to get background music working for my game. All you have to do is add an audio source component a...

Presentation Day Game Review Week 13

I really enjoyed the day overall. It was nice to see how everyone had progressed with the project over the break. Looking at other peoples was inspiring and thought me a thing or two. Some of my favorite projects I seen on the day where the farm puzzle game, the tile puzzle game and the interactive film.    The farm puzzle game looked very professional. In my opinion it looked like a full game for kids. The simplistic puzzles and bright  colours  are a great design choice.  The second game I really enjoyed playing was the tile puzzle game. This game was also a kid’s puzzle game. I was impressed by how Robert coded the game, it looked like it would have taken a long time to make. Although it’s a game for kids, I think he could have added more tiles to later levels to increase the difficulty. The games  colour  palette gives it a more calming feel.    The third project I really enjoyed viewing on the day was the ...
