Introduction Into My (Awesome) Life

The names Conor, and in this blog I want to tell you a little about myself. I'm 20 years old and have lived in Dublin my entire life. I am currently a second-year student studying "Creative Digital Media" in Blanchardstown. I really enjoy my course and plan on getting a job in this industry when I get my degree. I'd describe myself as a determined and hardworking person who loves a good laugh.

After working hard in year one it's safe to say I learned a lot. The best class I took last year was photography. I loved that this module required us to go outside to take photos because it offered a nice break from working inside all day. Although I liked most of my modules last year, I found modules that involved film or photography to be the most enjoyable. My goal for this year is to continue working hard and improve on my work.

Speaking of working hard, we all need a break every now and again. Over the break, I took the opportunity to travel to several countries, including Lithuania, Poland, Germany, and the UK. I really enjoyed myself and got to take lots of photos. I also made a couple of travel videos to remember all the places I visited. I thought this was a good idea, as it will be something I can look back on in the future for memories.

I love photography and film but I am also interested in games. I am an avid PC gamer and love playing games from a variety of different genres. I also like the PS4, as that platform is home to my favourite games of all time, the "Uncharted Series". I started playing PC games four years ago after I built my own "gaming" PC. I prefer playing on PC now because games look better and play at a smoother framerate. Some of my favourite games I've played on PC are "CounterStrike Global Offensive" and "PlayerUnknowns Battlegrounds". I like these games as they are competitive and require a lot of skill.
I also have a true love for football. I have played since I was seven years old and haven't stopped since. I support "Liverpool FC" but also enjoy watching "Celtic FC" and "Real Madrid". I currently play football in college and for Phoenix AFC.

If I'm not studying, playing football, or on the computer, I can assure you I'm probably with my girlfriend or eating food because pizza is one of the worlds greatest creations...ever.

  2. Hi Conor,
Few common interests: footie, pizza and video games. Glad to see you're enjoying the course and that you implied some stuff you learned into real life. Now I'm just gonna enter some words because I really, really, really need to reach the sixty word count, he didn't say we can't do that. But over all keep it up, can't wait for more content.

  5. Hey Conor
Love the blog and great to learn more about you. Good to see we have the same interests such as film and games. Very impressive that you built your own PC and you probably get the best experience of gaming on the PC as I always hear its the best game console. Good choice with Uncharted as your favourite game and out all of the uncharted games, 4 is probably my favourite. Delighted you support Liverpool as well.

  8. Hey Conor,

I can tell that we already have a lot in common. You can not beat a big fat pizza for breakfast, lunch or dinner! I also really enjoy photography and regularly do photo shoots with my friends. I am also prone to the odd game of Fifa, although I do not think `ll be investing in Fifa 19 as college is keeping me far too busy.

Hope you do well this year, good luck with all of your assignments.

  9. Hey Conor,
Really like the theme of your blog, it looks good and it's easy to navigate. Your not wrong about pizza, I work in an Italian takeaway and I'm nearly always the first person to run out the back with it, which is like every shift I do. That's great that you liked photography and filming so much and you could use them when you went travelling, your summer sounds like it was amazing! Great post, good luck with the rest of the year

Game Brainstorm

Game Brainstorm  I got my first game idea after looking at endless runner games such as "Temple Run", "Subway Surfers", "Sonic Dash" and "Super Mario Run". I noticed a lot of these games in this genre are on Android and iOS devices. This got me thinking about creating a similar game for PC. The first of these games to become popular was "Temple Run" back in 2011. This game made the genre popular on mobile devices which later inspired the other endless runner games I mentioned. Endless running games have very simple controls, such as jumping over and dodging oncoming obstacles. A player's score is generally determined by how far they travel without hitting any obstacles. The games have simplistic controls but are difficult because you cannot stop the forward momentum of your character. Although these games have different art styles the gameplay is the same.  I think this would be a good type of game to make because the gameplay ...

Feedback Strategies

The first article I read "Five Reasons to Stop Saying "Good Job!" by Alfie Kohn. The author explains different reasons why he thinks loving and making your child feel good is very different from praise.  Praise will work in the short run because children just want approval from their parents when they are young. Overexploiting this idea will eventually make kids feel manipulated. Kids will start relying on their parent's evaluations too much if they are praised for every little thing. It's damaging for a child in the long run because when they grow up, they will still feel the need to hear whether what they did was ok from others.  Overpraise will make affect how a child feels when they actually achieve something for themselves. They will not appreciate actual achievements if they are constantly getting praise for anything they do. Children will lose interest in whatever they have to do because they know they'll get praise or rewarded for whateve...

Feedback Thoughts

Feedback Thoughts The first blog I read by was about how too much praise can force a person to develop a fixed mindset. The article pushes the idea that people who are praised too much don't bother to develop new skills or better themselves because they are already "brilliant". This blog also focuses on how a fixed mindset can hold a person back in their workplace. Technological developments are constantly changing the workplace, which forces people to adapt and learn new skills. In the second article, I read the author gives us advice on how to crush self-doubt based on his own experiences as a teacher. He talks about seven different ways and goes into detail about each. I liked this article because the author talks about what he did to crush is own self-doubt. I thought both articles were useful in their own way. I found the first one focused more on the benefits of a growth mindset whereas the second focused on how to achieve a growth mindset. I thought the seven...
